Investing in Women, Transforming Families

Power of Savings

Just a few years ago, savings felt impossible for Seema’s family, who were living on her husband’s single income of $90 per month. Every dollar he earned as an e-rickshaw driver went toward basic necessities. Today, Seema and her family have saved $200. These savings represent far more than the dollar value. It means stability, dignity, and hope for her children’s future. Getting there, however, was not an easy journey.

Searching for a Solution

At 35, Seema was determined to create opportunities for her family that she herself never had access to. When rising expenses made it increasingly difficult to support her children’s education, she began searching for ways to contribute financially.

She first took a small loan of $60 to open a local tuck shop selling cigarettes, toffees, and household essentials. But the small business brought in very little income and could not provide the financial security the family needed.

The difficult reality fueled her search for a stable, professional career.

A New Opportunity

Seema enrolled in Nomi Network’s Workforce Development Program.
Motivated by the desire for a stable job, Seema completed the training and secured employment at a Hero Honda showroom, where she began earning $90 per month.
The transition into formal employment came with challenges, including adapting to a work uniform. Seema, who had never worn pants and a shirt to work, initially felt uncomfortable. But with her husband’s support and growing confidence, she adapted quickly and embraced her new role.

Building stability through financial milestones

For the first time, the family could think beyond daily survival.
Together, Seema and her husband carefully managed their finances: his income covered household essentials while her earnings were saved for long-term goals like healthcare and education. Those savings were put toward a powerful goal: enrolling her daughter in college.

Strength during adversity

When her husband later became seriously ill, Seema temporarily stepped away from her job to care for him and support the family through tailoring work and managing the tuck shop. After his recovery, she returned to work, determined to continue building a stronger future for her children.

Today, Seema contributes significantly to her household income and continues saving for her daughters’ futures. Her employer also provides small financial contributions on top of her salary, giving the family an additional layer of financial security.

Creating Generational Change

More than money, Seema now speaks with confidence about their future. Her ability to earn, save, and make decisions about their future has become a reality, allowing her to believe her daughters will have opportunities she never had. What once felt impossible—savings, education, and stability—is now within reach.
