HELP US REACH OUR $75K GOAL.

This year, we are raising $75,000 to expand our virtual Workforce Development Program so that we can see more women economically empowered, rising above the snares of human trafficking and securing freedom for their families.

With COVID-19 we recognize that the future of anti-human trafficking initiatives relies heavily on technological advancement and scalable economic empowerment programs. We saw great results in pivoting our programs to be virtual, and want to scale this further so we can reach even more survivors in 2021, despite current limitations of social distancing.

Together we will see more women RISE EMPOWERED, and eradicate modern slavery.

*When you donate $100 or more to our See Her Rise campaign, we’ll gift you with a free mask made by one of the women in our economic empowerment programs! Our masks are made with deadstock sari fabrics to avoid textile waste; hence the colors and patterns will vary!

READ HER STORY. SEE HER RISE!

Meet Golu

Growing up as the eldest of four siblings, Golu’s parents could only afford to put her through school.  But after completing the 12th grade, Golu made it her goal to fund her other siblings’ education. This mission is why she joined our program in 2019. During this year’s lockdown, our field staff helped Golu get hired as an automotive technician even though her technical skills training was on hold. Since July, she has been earning 5200 INR ($70) per month constructing motorcycle parts, which is outstanding pay for a woman working in the informal sector with no formal experience. Golu is grateful that she can acquire invaluable professional skills and earn income to invest in her siblings’ education as schools start to reopen.

Meet Neema

Neema was a victim of child marriage at the age of 13. Due to COVID-19, her husband was out of work from mid-March until late summer of this year, which placed a tremendous financial strain on their family. Neema had just completed the first phase of our Workforce Development training before the lockdown, where she learned financial literacy, hygiene, leadership, efficacy, and essential sewing skills. When Neema found out that the next phase of her technical skills training was postponed, she got resourceful. Utilizing the skills she’s learned at the start of our program, she purchased a sewing machine and started altering her neighbors’ clothing for income. Her earnings sustained her family during the months that her husband was out of work.

Meet Khushi

At 17, Khushi married a man she deeply loved, even when her family disapproved. However, her husband lated became violent and toxic. Despite Khushi’s love for her two children, she felt a lack of hope and purpose in her life. After Khushi met our Nomi Network staff, she was adamant about enrolling in the program. She pushed back hard against her family and her husband, who was extremely unsupportive, in order to attend our training. She was willing to risk everything for her economic freedom. Today Khushi serves as one of our brave community outreach workers, sharing vital health information and conducting contact tracing to stop the spread of COVID-19 in her community and earning income for her family. Khushi is also passionate about teaching, and plans to seek higher education to continue expanding her horizons.
