My name is Tara. I live in Dallas, and I’m 18 years old. I love running, but I always feel like I can never outrun my past or problems. I was taken from my mom when I was seven because life with her and her violent boyfriends wasn’t safe. My granny took me in, and for a time, I felt secure. When I started high school, she fell ill, and I was left on my own. Do I have to follow the same path as my mom just to survive, with no other options in sight?
